A Special Welcome if you've
just joined us! What a great group of friends I've been making with this
project! You guys are a tremendous encouragement to me! Thank you!
In this issue:
1)
Refrigeration System Recharging Basics:
A Long Overdue Disclaimer 2)
Fresh Recalls:
A GE Dishwasher Problem You Should Know About
3) 'Anyway'
Don't spend all that money on printer ink! The best
inkjet cartridge prices ever! I used to pay $30 for
Epson inkjet cartridges - now
I pay $3.95!) You'll love these guys! I've used their
ink in all our printers for the last 4 years, and highly
recommend them: Inkjet Cartridges and Toner |
1) I should have mentioned this in my very
first article on the subject of refrigeration system repairs, but for
whatever reason neglected it.
I want to thank Don
and several other subscribers for reminding me to tell you that there
are (ridiculously) severe penalties for opening refrigeration systems
and risking the venting of refrigerant - and maybe getting hurt in the
process! And hey, I don't want to lose any of you guys!
Without the proper
EPA licensing (a joke, really) and training (no joke!), you can get into
real trouble and do yourself harm when messing with even the small
systems used in home refrigeration equipment.
I've been doing this
stuff for so long I tend to assume too much sometimes. (Gone are the
days when you could spray liquid Freon 12 into a Styrofoam cup just to
watch it boil, or spray it onto defrost thermostats to test them
<grin>).
Anyway, here are
some important facts that 'do- it- yourselfers' must know on the
subject:
* You must be EPA
certified to buy refrigerant (except R134A, which anyone can buy at auto
parts stores) or to open up a refrigeration system and do any repairs.
* You must have a
refrigerant recovery machine to remove the old refrigerant into a
certified refrigerant recovery container (not a disposable resale
refrigerant jug).
* If you don't use a
recovery machine, and vent the refrigerant into the atmosphere, you
could face fines up to $25,000. And if someone turns you in, they are
rewarded up to $10,000 (our government's overstepping their bounds on
that one, and it scares me!)
Anyway, words to the wise. Again, the series we're doing is meant to
be informative in nature, and definitely not to be considered as
instructions for doing this work if you're not properly trained and
certified.
2) Here's yet another recall, announced
back in mid-May, that you should be aware of. Frankly, we saw this one
coming a long time ago. 'Have been repairing dispenser-area leaks in
these critters for a long time.
About 2.5 million
GE-built dishwashers manufactured between 9/97 and 12/01 and sold for
approx $400, are leaking rinse agent onto their wiring harnesses, which
can cause a fire.

3) And finally, here's one of my favorites:
'People
are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true
enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the your best anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.'
- Mother Teresa
